The world of Giotto and
Padova in the 14th century
The
Multimedia Room, at the entrance to the Scrovegni Chapel, is a special
area entirely dedicated
to Giotto and to the city in which he lived in the first decades of the
14th century.
It presents an itinerary, exploiting virtual reality, multimedial techniques,
films and real-scale reconstructions, which allow visitors to immerse
themselves totally in the world of the 14t
century and of Giottos painting, and to learn about the works of
this great Tuscan artist, and how he lived and worked.
The project, prepared by the City of Padova and funded by the E.L. Wiegand
Foundation, also aims at controlling entry to the Chapel, in order to
protect and safeguard the frescoes in the best possible
way. This virtual museum, just a few steps from the Chapel,
aims at regulating visits - without depriving the public of the pleasure
of approaching these works of art, but by favouring more
complete understanding and appreciation of Giottos masterpieces.
Thus, moments of passive enjoyment alternate with others in
which visitors can actively
intervene, choosing the various topics which interest them most.
