Virtual reconstruction

After Enrico Scrovegni’s moving story, visitors may access an interactive workstation on the
frescoes of the Chapel, in the apse. A simple console
puts you in communication with a 3D world, where you can quickly receive a great quantity of information of high quality and cultural value. Learning, enjoyment, enrichment and amusement
are the key-words for this station.
The contents are organized as follows:

Scenes: click on this icon for descriptions of every scene depicted by Giotto, in Italian, English or German.Personages: all identified, including those in the lobed cornices and the Last Judgement, Vices and Virtues.

Thematic presentation: this is essential in order to understand the subjects treated by Giotto in the complex decoration of the Chapel. A spoken text guides you in a horizontal presentation of the
stories.
Exegetic interpretation: for proper identification of the parallels between the Old and New Testaments and between the scenes linked in pairs vertically.

Presentation with special wall lighting: a romantic interpretation of the ar-
rangement of the scenes, according to the different ways in which the walls of the Chapel are illuminated.
Spot illumination (highlighting): a particular type of gentle lighting, recalling torchlight, is reflected on parts painted in gold.

Style: Giotto’s principal and most innovative stylistic characteristics: light, colour, composition,and space.
The Last Judgement: a new interpretation of this enormous scene, frescoed on the inner wall of the façade of the Chapel, together with exhaustive details of its iconography and symbols.

Crypt: a virtual reconstruction, as if the ceiling of the crypt under the Chapel (not open to visitors) were transparent, allowing them to admire the star-spangled sky.

3D cybermap: a map of hypertextual links, with explanatory graphics.The station has various levels of information: the most simple and immediate, a few minutes for each step, provides basic information by means of images and spoken texts. Then it moves on to further details, for more exhaustive information on all the subjects presented.
Each topic is accompanied by original
background music. The technology used here enhances the communicative force that the images
already possess, to make your enjoyment more immediate and complete.
